Why are Aston Villa scoring so many Premier League goals from outside the box?

1+ hour, 34+ min ago (687+ words) Boubacar Kamara scored his first goal for Aston Villa since May Unai Emery's Aston Villa march on. Victory over Wolves was unconvincing. The only moment of certainty came from the foot of Boubacar Kamara, the midfielder arrowing a shot into the top corner from 20 yards to settle the game. It lifted them to third in the Premier League, a point behind Manchester City in second, and, while talk of a unexpected title fight may seem fanciful at this stage, Villa could soon be in the conversation as Arsenal's nearest challengers. They have won seven of their past eight top-flight games, a contrast to a difficult start which saw them lose their 12-month unbeaten home record and go out of the Carabao Cup before the end of September. Kamara's strike lit up an even Midlands derby on Sunday and it was…...

Glasgow & Edinburgh fan replies after URC weekend action

2+ hour, 51+ min ago (388+ words) We asked Glasgow and Edinburgh fans for their views on their teams' URC weekend action. Glasgow lost 23-0 to Scarlets and Edinburgh edged out Ospreys 19-17. What Glasgow fans said: Tom: I was at the game and could not believe none of our players were able to keep the ball for more than a couple of phases. Coughed up possession and handed a desperate Scarlets team momentum and hope. Jare Oguntibeju and Dan Lancaster were the worst on the night but everyone was culpable. I hope Franco Smith gives them a rocket for letting the fans down. Garry: It looked like the classic example of 'never underestimate your opponent'. Scarlets turned up expecting a tough game and Warriors didn't turn up. Very poor display from Warriors. Scarlets earned that win. Kenny: Hard to pinpoint exactly what went wrong here. Basically nothing seemed…...

Oliver Glasner: Crystal Palace need to 'spend not save' says manager

3+ hour, 5+ min ago (840+ words) Oliver Glasner was appointed Crystal Palace manager in February 2024 Just six months ago, Crystal Palace celebrated winning their first major trophy when they beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final. That triumph earned the Eagles a place in Europe but they have struggled to find the balance between competing in the Conference League and performing domestically. Palace have failed to win any of their four Premier League matches that followed on from a European night, including Sunday's 2-1 loss at home to Manchester United. Manager Oliver Glasner believes a lack of serious investment in the squad, having sold talisman Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, is coming back to bite them. "We missed a couple of chances in July and August, in the transfer window, to make it easier for us but again we will stick together and make it better." Glasner…...

Our own shores were inspiration for Scottish composers Craig Armstrong and Calum Martin in their album Edge of the Sea and Felix Mendelssohn wrote his famous Hebrides Overture after a trip to the Isle of Staffa. And Benjamin Britten created Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grime while American composer John Adams's Become Ocean is inspired by the oceans and climate change. 1 hour, 55 minutes See all episodes from Classical Now…...

Crystal Palace 1-2 Man Utd: What Ruben Amorim said

5+ hour, 11+ min ago (584+ words) Ruben Amorim to BBC Match of the Day after Manchester United's victory against Crystal Palace: "It was small details that helped. The pace and intensity was better in the second half. I could see that Palace were getting tired at the end of the first half and knew they would suffer if we scored. "We went on to control the game well away from our goal and in the opposition half. We controlled the game well but just have to be careful about what we did in the first half." On how to exploit a team that you expect to fatigue: "It's the runs and you could see it with Joshua Zirkzee and how he connected with the team through the second ball. You have to explain that to the players but we have experience of being like that [tired]…...
